Book Projects

Each month, students in my class will be expected to complete book projects on a book read outside of class.  Below is a list of the projects, the due dates, and the instructions for completion. You cannot repeat the same project for more than one book. For example, if you choose the Flip Book for your first project, you can NEVER do a Flip Book again.

Project Directions
Storyboard Student will create a series of drawn pictures with written sentences describing important events that happened in the book they read. Pictures need to be creative, neat and in chronological order. Sentences have to be descriptive and informing.
Mystery Showcase Student collect items that represent their book. They must present the items and write a summary of how each item relates to their book. 
Personality Collage Doll Student has to create a doll out of any material they wish. The doll must represent one of the characters in their book. They will present the doll and explain why and how the doll represents the character in the book.
Menu Student will create a menu for one of the characters in their book. The menu has to include breakfast, lunch, dinner and a snack. The menu needs to reflect the character in the book. Student will write a descriptive paragraph explaining why the character would choose each of the food items on his/her menu.
Character Letter Student will write a letter to one of the characters in the book. The letter must be in correct form and must include the following: why they choose to read the book, 3 questions they would like to ask the character, 2 things they liked about the book and why, 2 things they didn't like about the book and why, and how they feel now that they have read the book.
Setting Brochure

Student will create a brochure for the setting of the book. For example if it is a farm the brochure would include inviting things that would make you want to go to the farm. 

Items include on the brochure must come from the story. I need to be able to tell what the book was about by reading the brochure.
Book Jacket

Design a new book jacket for the book.  The jacket may be drawn by hand or completed using a computer.  The jacket must be folded correctly, and contain the following items:

Scrapbook Page

Students should create a scrapbook page containing the following information: 

·        Title of book
·        Author
·        Genre
·        Created by (your name)
·        Character and a few sentences about them

·        Setting (where and when the story took place)
·
        Problems and solutions (you can illustrate & tell about several of the main problems)
·        Theme of the book

Remember that pictures can help illustrate your point!  Make it creative and interesting!

PowerPoint Presentation

Students may create a PowerPoint Presentation that contains the following information:

Title of book
Author
Genre
Created by (your name)
Character and a few sentences about them
Problems and solutions (you can illustrate & tell about several of   the main problems)
Setting (where and when the story took place)

Theme of the book

Gameboard Students may create a gameboard about their book.  Gameboards must include all parts needed for play, as well as a detailed set of directions.  Color, creativity, and design will count.
Drama Students may write a small play (15 minute maximum) highlighting the main events of the book, and act it out for the class.  Students may use costumes, as well as any props.
Song Students may write and perform a song summarizing the book. 
Timeline Student will create a timeline telling the events of their book. The timeline has to be creative and interesting.
